CDC School Health Profiles (Profiles) School Health Profiles Background Information
The CDC School Health Profiles (Profiles) assess school health policies and practices in states, urban school districts, territories, and tribal governments. They are conducted every 2 years.
Middle and high school principal and the lead health education teachers complete a self-administered questionnaire at each sampled school. In NYS, the New York State Center for School Health (NYSCSH) conducts this survey on behalf of the NY State Education Department. The CDC Profiles Website contains links to data, participation maps, questionnaires and rationales, fact sheets and presentations. Click here to access it.
Profiles monitors the status of:
- School health and physical education requirements and content
- School health policies related to HIV infection/AIDS, tobacco-use prevention, and nutrition
- Asthma management activities
- Family and community involvement in school health programs
Profiles data can be used by education and health officials to:
- Identify professional development needs
- Plan and monitor programs
- Seek funding
