NYSED Resources

New York State Center for School Safety (NYSCFSS)
Schools must be safe havens for teaching and learning, free from crime and violence. A contract office of the NYSED, this technical assistance center offers statewide professional development and other support for schools and districts in creating and maintaining safe and healthy learning environments for all New York State students.

Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC)
Resources for school districts to implement programs and services to prevent violence, drug abuse, and substance abuse in schools. 

Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE)
Resources and guidance to school officials about the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education Act related to school safety plans, codes of conduct, and school violence prevention and intervention (includes training and workshops).

School Safety and Educational Climate (SSEC)
Information on data collection, which is part of NYSED's implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act and Violent or Disruptive Incident Reporting.  

National Resources

Safe Learning Environments- USDOE
The US Department of Education provides information on programs to improve school safety and address the needs of students through access to health care, violence prevention, and mental health services.

Response and Resiliency
Provides prevention, recovery, and resilience resources for schools to help build a safe and supportive learning environment that develops students' protective factors before a crisis occurs and maintains and builds the learning environment after a crisis has occurred. 

SchoolSafety.gov
Provides resources and evidence-based practices that can be used to help inform and support school safety plans and programs. It includes easy-to-use tools to find funding opportunities and to create and implement comprehensive and holistic safety programs.
