E-cigarette vapors can stress cells in ways that could promote disease, new data show

Thirty-two healthy young adults took part in the study. Researchers looked for signs of oxidative stress in immune cells. If oxidative stress becomes imbalanced, it can attack proteins and fats in our cells, that overtime can lead to cancer, heart and lung disease, premature aging, and diseases such as dementia.

Teens make up the largest group that’s been experimenting with vaping. Last year, some 3.6 million U.S. middle- and high-school students vaped.
