Children and COVID-19: State-Level Data Report

This week marks the one-year anniversary of the Children and COVID-19: State Data Report. At this time, it still appears that severe illness due to COVID-19 is rare among children. However, there is an urgent need to collect more data on longer-term impacts of the pandemic on children, including ways the virus may harm the long-term physical health of infected children, as well as its emotional and mental health effects.

Cumulative cases of COVID-19 in children exceed 3.6 million in those jurisdictions, which is 13.6% of the total reported among all ages, and the overall rate of coronavirus infection is 4,824 cases per 100,000 children in the population, the AAP and CHA said in their weekly COVID-19 report.
