CDC: HPV infections declining because of vaccination
CDC researchers examined data through 2018 and found that human papillomavirus vaccine-type prevalence decreased by 88% and 81% among females ages 14 to 19 and females ages 20 to 24, respectively, compared with prevalence before the introduction of HPV vaccination in 2006. The findings, published in the agency's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, also showed that HPV infections among sexually experienced females ages 14 to 19 dropped by 97% in those vaccinated and 87% in those who had not received the vaccine, which suggests herd effects.
