Community Healath Access to Addiction and Mental Healthcare Project (CHAMPP)

WHAT IS CHAMP?
In 2018, New York State launched CHAMP, an ombudsman program, to help people overcome barriers to mental health (“MH”) and substance use disorder (“SUD”) care. With support from the Office of Mental Health and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, CHAMP acts as a comprehensive resource for consumers, providers, and healthcare advocates. CHAMP provides education on individuals’ insurance rights and helps address some of the most common barriers to SUD and MH care, including insurance denials of MH and SUD treatment and improper prior authorizations.

This new program provides help! ccnsumers, providers, and other healthcare advocates can call the CHAMP Helpline at 888-614-5400. The Helpline is a free and confidential resource available to all New Yorkers, regardless of insurance or uninsured status. Helpline hours are currently Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
