Concussion Training Courses
School nurses, certified athletic trainers, physical education teachers, and coaches are required to complete a NYSED-approved concussion training course every 2 years. The courses offered by the CDC are available in multiple languages.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers the CDC Train Learning Network, a comprehensive national training program. Users must sign up for an account to access trainings.
Note: The courses listed below are national training courses. Therefore, what unlicensed school personnel are permitted to do and the scope of practice of certified athletic trainers and school nurses in NYS may differ from what is described in the training. School personnel and licensed or certified health professionals in NYS must follow NYS laws and regulations.

Coaches & Physical Education (PE) Teachers
Coaches and PE teachers can choose from either of the NYSED-approved concussion training courses below:
- HEADS UP to Youth Sports: Online Training for Coaches (45 minutes)
This CDC course is NYSED-approved for coaches and PE teachers and must be completed every two years.
- Concussion in Sports Course (1 hour)
This course from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is NYSED-approved for coaches and PE teachers and must be completed every two years. Available in English and Spanish.
