New York State Athletic Placement Process for Interschool Athletic Programs (NYS APP)
Provides a protocol for districts that choose to allow students in grades 7 and 8 to move up; or students in grades 9-12 to move down, and safely participate at a level of competition based upon physical and emotional readiness and athletic ability rather than age and grade alone. Amendment CR 135.5 First-Aid Knowledge and Skills Requirement for Coaches (NYSED 7/11/25)
Affirms and requires basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/automatic external defibrillator (AED) courses be provided by nationally recognized organizations and eliminates the Department specific course outline as an equivalent course and provides other key points.

Health Exams are required for participation in school athletics (sports). An interval health history must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian before each sports season if the health exam has not been conducted within 30 days of the start of the sports season.
